MATTHEW—The GOSPEL

Matthew Thumb

The first 39 books of the Bible are called the Old Testament. The next 27 books are called the New Testament. The first four books of the New Testament are called the Gospels. The word gospel means good news. The good news is that the One promised by God in the Old Testament has come. (Messiah, Christ, Promised One, Coming One, Anointed One, the son of David, the son of Abraham, the Son of God—His Name is Jesus.)

In the beginning of the Bible, God promises He will send One Who will save the nation of Israel and all others who will believe. This Promised One would be of the kingly line of David. Jesus is shown to be the King of Israel in the book of Matthew.
