2 TIMOTHY—The LETTER

II Timothy cover thumb

The last 27 books of the Bible are called the New Testament. 21 of those books are called Epistles or letters. They were written for the instruction of believers in Jesus, the Christ.

This epistle was written by Paul to Timothy; this one, his last. Paul knew his death was imminent and he wanted to instruct Timothy as he was about to turn over the ministry to him. Although Paul was in prison, the Faith wasn’t. First and foremost, Timothy was exhorted to guard, through the Holy Spirit, the Treasure, the standard of sound words, which had been entrusted to him. Timothy would need to fight the good fight as Paul had done; he would suffer hardship as a soldier of Christ. “Preach the Word, Timothy! Preach the Word!”
